Dogs of mine
The first dog I remember having was a mix/mutt named Turbo, well he belonged to my older brother, we had him in our family home town in Texas. I remember he was a loyal and cool dog that he had for a few years. Then as a teen we had our first pit bull that was given to our family (rehomed from a local farmer cuz he ate the chickens). Now, that dog was very protective and intimidating looking. He was a beautiful brindle and had him for a few years. Then as a young adult, I lived alone and had received a boxer named Conan, he was such a character and a good companion. He was my personal guard dog and a sweet heart. He was also a Houdini, always "escaped" from his kennel. There was this one time that I came home to find him chilling on the couch and I noticed an empty gallon of milk on my kitchen floor...further investigation, I found that he opened the fridge and finished my gallon of milk, ate all my dozen eggs, a loaf of bread, and who knows what else! He was so smart that I had to buy clips to keep him in his kennel when I was at work. Then we were gifted a rottweiler Bruiser, he was a good looking and strong dog. Also, very protective dog, what I loved most about him was that we didn't have to tie him when he was outside, turns out he would never leave home. That was until our young amstaff Max took him to the neighbors and was shot and killed. Then our young Max of about 1 year old was run over and didn't survive. We then decided to take a break from having any dogs.
It wasn't until about 4 years later that we met a small maltese havanese mix, Luna. I had to have her, this bundle of white long soft hair and round black eyes, I just knew I wanted to keep her. Then our friend was breeding the Dog de Bordeaux and we fell in love with this beautiful tender of a dog. We decided to buy us a pup and named him Diesel. He lived on for about another 1.5 years and died of a heart attack. In between, we found a European Doberman Pinscher Zeus. He is an amazing dog and very smart! And, then theres Brutus the bully dog or my "little piggy". We've had a mix of dogs throughout the years from little mix terriers to the massive Dog de Bordeaux. You can find videos posted on my youtube channel of Diesel to Zeus and Brutus. Here I will describe some of these dogs and to answer questions asked on my YouTube channel. Max the blue nose pit bull
Here's the Max blue nose pit bull. He was such a great dog, loved to cuddle and was polite. He didn't jump onto us and was eager to please , and learned fast. It is heartbreaking to have him for a short time of 1.5 years but we loved every moment with him.
There is a huge misconception of the pit bull breed that they are aggressive and dangerous or bred to fight. I have had many pitbills and can say the opposite, this breed is the most loving breed and extremely friendly to people. But like any dog, it all depends on the way the dog has been treated and continues to be treated. Our pitbulls including Max grew up as a house dog and with children in the home. He was loving towards all and never aggressive towards family members or other people.

In fact, there are many people that own and love this breed for the loyal and caring nature.
The sad part is that so many people do get a dog for the wrong reasons and with pit bulls they want them to be aggressive and when they're not, then they are tossed to be picked up by the dog pound. On my many visits to our local Humane Society you can find about half of the dogs are pit bull; it is a sad sight.
Any person interested in bringing home a new puppy must first research and pick a breed that matches their wants and availability for the dog. Having a dog is a huge responsibility and requires a lot of time to care for and teach...pretty much like a child.
I found the pitbull a great home breed but they are banned in city limits and I can't have one. Yakima city bans any type of pitbull breed since 1987. The ban was a result of at least 3 pit bull attacks. This month though, the ban was reviewed and sought to be removed. The Yakima City council voted to keep the ban in place and will meet in April 17, 2018 to discuss "dangerous dogs" ordinance.

Max was a wanderer, that is one thing pit bulls like to do; they will explore their areas and neighborhoods. That is how my Max was killed; my eldest son had left the gate unlocked and Max wandered out where he then was hit by a truck and died.
Adopted Pit Bull 2018October 2018:
So we have an addition to our family. We knew we wanted a pit bull and with the changes to our city, pit bulls are now allowed within the city limits!! The opportunity came when we visited out vets' office to check on our bully dog, Brutus, we saw an add for a free pit bull. We asked to see the pit bull which was a 2 yr old that the original owners brought in to put him to sleep. They reported that the husband of the home didn't want Chewbacca because he tore through a water pipe. The vet refused to euthanize Chewbacca but said he'd keep him and offer to give for a free adoption. Once we saw him and saw how friendly he was, we we fell in love but weren't sure how Zeus would take it. The vet offered we try Chewbacca for the weekend and that's what we did. See that video meeting with Zeus and Chewbacca click here, but it wasn't soon until they became friends and we kept him! He is such a good dog and I would say he soothes my anxiety galore! So far, the best choice we've made. I'll keep posting videos and images of our Chewbacca and pack on here and Youtube, come by! |

Train a pit bull
Pit Bulls are smart and learn instruction well. Like most dogs, they are also stubborn and can test the instructor. Once past that, they learn quick and are eager to please.
Many owners will do obedience training which will be extremely beneficial.

guard or protection?
What I learned from this breed is that they are curious and interested in all people. They are affectionate dogs and will not do much "protecting", unless another dog were to attack you.
What helps these dogs is that people see the pit bull and become scared; so they work as a deterrent of some sorts.

Grooming for pit bull?
Super easy to care for in the grooming department. I remember Max hardly shed and that is because they have short coat and require minimal brushing (about once a week).
Like any other dog, caring for teeth and checking ears. Nail trimmings are necessary.

European doberman pinscher
Here is our Zeus the European Doberman Pinscher at 8 weeks. He turned out to be the biggest of the liter. The sire was 85 lbs at 1 year with the dam was 78 lbs at 1.5 years.
On our first appointments at the vet office for the ear cropping, we met two other siblings and they were so much smaller in size. Zeus will be 1 year old and I have created videos of him growing and posted his weight on those posts (Youtube channel). He continues to grow and imo he is the greatest and easiest breed to have. |
History
Fact: 5th Most Smartest Dog Breed
Originated in Germany in the early 1880s by Mr. Louis Dobermann who was a tax collector and sometimes worked as a police officer, night guard, and dog catcher. Mr. Dobermann often found himself traveling with bags of money through dangerous parts of town at late hours. With his access to the pound, he bred a dog that is lean and muscular, a medium sized dog that is refined but intimidating. The American Kennel Club recognized the Doberman breed in 1908 as a working dog. The dobermans were used during World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps in their war dogs program. The dogs were used throughout the South Pacific to lead patrols through the hot dense jungle, to guard troops at night while they slept, and to give warnings of hidden enemy combatants waiting to carry out an ambush. Many of the dogs survived to return home to civilian families, but others made the ultimate sacrifice and are buried in the National War Dog Cemetery at Naval Base Guam. |

Training
As one of the most intelligent breeds, they are easily trainable. Given their domineering nature and strength, obedience training is commonly used early on.
Protection?
Dobermans are bred to be aggressive protective dogs but you will find that aggression has been bred down to be a family dog. You will find that the aggression is dependent on the bloodline and training. This breed will protect its family and home and can be cautious and aggressive with strangers.
grooming
The doberman is a very clean dog and requires minimal coat care. They have short one layer coat. I found this to be the most easiest breed to have in the home; hardly any shedding, no drooling, and not so massive (when compared to a french mastiff).
Nail trimmings, brushing of teeth, and checking of ear wax buildup is regular.

European vs american doberman Pinscher?
I initially didn't want the Doberman Pinscher because I didn't like the thin muzzle, thin build, and they just looked scary to me. It wasn't until I was told of the European type did I start to consider this breed.
What I saw different from the American vs European was instant to me...I saw the European with a nice thicker or wider lower muzzle, the mahogany or deep rust color, and overall thicker frame of body/neck.
I am very happy with my European Doberman Pinscher and get many compliments on his size and form. I have also been told that American is a "show dog" while the European is a "working dog".
